Quiet day

It was pretty quiet today. I have not heard back from potential project. I guess I am not expecting a call.

Time to start on my sons mask. Tomorrow I will strip, mask and wetsand and get it ready to paint.

I downloaded more apps for my touch today. I probably won't use it much but it's cool. Here's a illustration I pulled out of my painting archive.

Respecting Creative Talent

Today was a typical day and like many times before I had a client tell me that my quote for two goalie masks was too high for the simple and they did not seem difficult to paint. The same old question, can you do better with the price? It was a bit insulting that someone that has no idea of the time it takes to paint and material cost, could tell me that the cost was too high for such a simple design. Not simple at all. Logos take time.

I did come down a little bit because I wanted to paint the masks. I wanted pieces to display on my website, but at what cost.

Goalie masks are a lot of work and clients will haggle with the price. Does anyone do this with plumbers or electricians? I don't think so, we pay the hourly rate and even though we are not happy we pay the bill. Creative people are always being challenged with this issue. I guess it doesn't help that we always give in. Starving Artist and all.

I have not heard back yet, but as time goes by, I keep thinking to myself that I should have stuck to my guns and took the chance that I may lose the job. We will see!

Cost of Business

So here's my dilema. I have two mask to paInt and both have a comlex logo. As with everything there is a easy way and a hard way to this project. I can cut all the masks by hand and take forever doing it or I can buy a plotter that will let me do the job in a short period of time. Not only will I not make money on the job I will have to go in dept to buy it. I do have work coming this winter that will require the plotter so it's a good investment, right. I am going to need one anyway. I am not looking forward to cutting all those detailed pieces.

As soon as I get confirmation I have to decide. Other than that I have my sons goalie mask to paint. I have been getting a lot of querries on cost for custom painting so I hope that's a good sign.
